'Typographic Expression in India'
A workshop by Prof. Mahendra Patel (Faculty member, Symbiosis Institute of Design) and Prof. Ranjana Dani
(HOD, Communication Design, MITID, Pune)
Workshop Theme : Typographic expression in India reflects the vibrant cultural nuances of the Indian kaleidoscope at a very rudimentary level. There is no deliberate effort to grasp and utilize the rich cultural heritage, as substantial motivation, to portray the Indian story through 'typographical expression'.
The decorative motifs from traditional and tribal arts and craft, the unique architectural forms of monumental yet intricate structures, objects and symbols of religious context, patterns that are woven into textiles to tell myriad stories can well become a beautiful inspiration to develop type design!

It could motivate designers to craft a visual language that speaks beyond a well drafted script.
We would like the share our experiences and passion to generate interest in designing expressive typography inspired by Indian cultural contexts.
