Speakers

The Seminar will host some of the leading experts working in the field of typography.

The speakers are:

Prof. Mahendra Patel

Professor Mahendra Patel, one of the finest teachers of Design, taught students at the National Institute of Design for 39 years. His areas of expertise include Typography, Typeface design, Signage Systems and Information Maps and Charts. He pioneered developments in these fields. Since 2004, he has retired from being a full time faculty at NID. He now spends his time on projects and conducts workshops at different design institutes.

Achyut Palav

Achyut Palav is a renowned calligrapher and of modern calligraphy. This specialises in calligraphic paintings, calligraphic art murals, wallpapers and books.

Prof. G.V.Sreekumar

Prof. Sreekumar is an Associate Professor at the Industrial Design Centre IIT Bombay. He joined IDC IIT Bombay, after working for eight years in the publication Industry.

S. K. Mohanty

S.K. Mohanty will be sharing his experiences in Indian language font design (in various languages)

Dhimant Panchal

Prof Dhimant Panchal is a graduate of the National Institute of Design. He graduated in the year 1980 in Industrial Design stream. He has extensive consultancy experience in Design in the areas of Product design, Exhibition design and corporate identity program. He likes to explore and experiment with typography.

Sarang Kulkarni

Sarang Kulkarni who studied Applied Arts at Sir J J School of Arts has interests and works in the field of in Graphic Design, Calligraphy and Typography. He also worked under Professor R K Joshi working on Gurmukhi system script for Microsoft Corporation. He runs his company WhiteCrow working in
these fields and has contributed in developing Indian fonts for use on the mobile environment.

Rajiv Prakash Khare

Rajiv Prakash studied Communication Design at IDC, IIT Bombay. His interest in typography led him to design many fonts. He was part of Summit Data Systems in Delhi where he designed many devangiri fonts. He has also designed the SARAS SALIL magazine.

Manohar Desai

Manohar Deasai says 'my world is all about bringing joy into people's lives through my forceful strokes and bright colors. Art is the way of my living, its limitations touch infinity. Art is the form of my being'. Having studied Applied Art , he now teaches at Symbiosis School of Design in Pune.

Manoj Gopinath

Manoj Gopinath is currently working in CDAC Pune, and will be speaking on Malayalam Typefaces.

Biju Neyyan

Biju is a recent graduate from the Industrial Design Centre, IIT Bombay. He will be speaking on his final project in IDC — the design of an onscreen font in Malayalam.

Tarun Deep Girdher

Tarun Deep Girdher is faculty at the National Institute of Design. His interests include Typography, Publication Design, Printing Technology and Visual Narratives.
