Focus on 'The Sacred and Typography'
The Typoday to be held at BHU Varanasi with the theme 'Typography and the Sacreds' is being postponed to 7, 8, 9 of December 2023. This is with the hope that we can conduct a physical event and be part of the sacred city of Varanasi. The dates for submissions are also postponed to 2023.
Typography Day will be held for the sixteenth time on 7th, 8th and 9th of December 2023 hosted by Department of Applied Arts, Faculty of Visual Arts Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi (BHU Varanasi) in collaboration with the IDC School of Design (IDC), Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) with support from India Design Association (InDeAs) and Aksharaya.
The theme for this year's event is 'The Sacred and Typography'
The event will feature workshops on Typography and Calligraphy followed by conference dedicated to 'Sacred and Typography'. The international conference will be devoted to addressing issues faced by type designers, type users and type educators. The conference includes presentations by invited keynote speakers, eminent academicians, industry professionals, research scholars and students. The event will also host an exhibition of selected posters from the Poster Design Competition.
The event is planned over three days:
Day 1: Workshops on Typography + Meet on ‘Research in Typography’
Day 2 & 3: Conference focusing on ‘The Sacred and Typography’ + Exhibition of Typography Posters on Expressing 'Sacred through Typography'.
The Conference will focus on the following issues:

- Typography in the context of Culture
- Typography in the process of Learning
- Typography using Multilingual Scripts
- Typography in Native (Indigenous) Scripts
- Typography in Local Languages
- Research Activities in Typography
