Title: 'Tangible Typography'
A workshop by Ruchi Shah
Design Associate, IDC, IIT Bombay
Abstract: The purpose of this workshop is to discover how unconventionally can you create letters, that put a message into context. You will develop letters, which are local to the region, using space, humor and exaggeration as the principles. Tell your message with the power of typography, pure big assembled typography.
Say goodbye to digital fonts - in this workshop you collaboratively get to bring a different dimension to regional typography. Create handmade letters - as a fully blown, larger-than-life installation. The workshop wants to explore different perspectives on familiar subjects by transforming ordinary materials into creative tools. Local words will be staged in big spaces with the objective of creating an unconventional typeface, using traditional materials. Putting no limits to the type of materials and spaces that can be used, the workshop has to be a union of crazy ideas and tangible work.
PS: The project lies in the process hence, if you have a digital camera and a tripod, bring it along. If you have a laptop, take it as well.
