Professor Mahendra Patel, one of the finest teachers of Design, taught students at the National Institute of Design for 39 years. His areas of expertise include Typography, Typeface design, Signage Systems and Information Maps and Charts. He pioneered developments in these fields. Since 2004, he has retired from being a full time faculty at NID. He now spends his time on projects and conducts workshops at different design institutes.
Deepak Ghare, one of the well known teachers in the field of printing education, taught Design and Typography to the printing students at Government Institute of Printing Technology, Mumbai for 35 years. Typography of Devanagari and regional language scripts have remained his field of interest and has written articles in Marathi journals on the subject. He has co-authored a book on ‘Evolution of Script and Typography: 25000 B.C. to 2000 A.D.’ He is also a critic of art and literature.
Achyut Palav is a renowned calligrapher and of modern calligraphy. This specialises in calligraphic paintings, calligraphic art murals, wallpapers and books.
Prof. Sreekumar is an Associate Professor at the Industrial Design Centre IIT Bombay. He joined IDC IIT Bombay, after working for eight years in the publication Industry.
Sandeep Bomble, popularly known as Bomble in the advertising industry, is a proud product of the Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Art. His illustrious advertising career encompasses 9 years at Ogilvy followed by 5 years at J. Walter Thompson. With a host of coveted international and national awards under his belt, he has been associated with some of the finest work in Indian advertising. A pure maverick by nature, his painting skills have also been exhibited across the country.
Sarang Kulkarni who studied Applied Arts at Sir J J Instiute of Applied Arts has interests and works in the field of in Graphic Design, Calligraphy and Typography. He runs his company WhiteCrow working in these fields.
Teaching Indian (Devanagari) Calligraphy, Typography & Design, for the past 20 years. Faculty at Sir J. J. Institute of Applied Art. Has work closely with Prof. R. K. Joshi for more than a decade. Type Design for Microsoft for Gujarati & Oriya scripts. Illustrated talks on Indian Calligraphy in Germany, Belgium, London and Japan. Work exhibited in Australia, USA. Recently had Show in Japan. Work in collection of Berlin Museum and many other international organisations. Conducted more than a hundred workshops in Maharashtra.
A graduate from the National Institute of Design, Rochana has design experience in a multitude of design fields, ranging from design of experiences and experiential spaces to brands and packaging for over a decade, and has explored typeface as a tool in various dimensions. At present, she leads the Communication design practice at India’s largest independent design consultancy, Elephant Design. She has been with Elephant for six years and worked closely with clients such as Commonwealth Games Federation, P&G, Unilever, Wipro Consumer Care, Britannia, Piramal Healthcare and Godrej.
Pooja Saxena is a final year student of the Fashion Communication programme at National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi. She currently lives in Bangalore where she is pursuing her graduation project — a research and information design project on primary education in India.
Tarini Dixit is a final year student inTypography Specialization of sir J.J.Institute of applied art. Her Final project “Type-Abuse” Explores Varied Aspects of the same. She has also works with MTV network as a Designer and Fashion stylist.
Kalpesh Gosavi is a final year student in Typography Specialization of sir J.J.Institute of applied art. He conducted few workshops, demo's on Devnagari Calligraphy. His Final project is on “Stylization of Devnagari Calligraphy and it's applications — Exploration in Graphic Design and Identity”, under guidence of Prof. Vinay Saynekar and Prof.Santosh Kshirsagar.
