Title: 'PLAYFUL Hand'
A workshop by Hiral Bhagat
Abstract: Our hand is our powerful tool. Our hand gestures are medium for communication. Playful hand is creative hand. This workshop encourages the participants to use their hands as task to create playful calligraphic letterforms and compositions.
Why this Workshop:
This workshop focuses on non machine approach. Participants will explore many ways to use their god given tool which is, HAND. Through this one can learn about letterform and symbols of ANY scripts, which can be explored as an abstract art form in the future work. The playful method will give distinct visual form to the imagination of the learner. This playful calligraphy letterform also helps to develop typography/lettering for the future use.
Materials/ tools to be brought by student participants:
Various colors of ink,
Various colors of fluid acrylic
OR
Any medium of your choice
100 gsm bleed proof paper –A4 size
Workshop Outline:
Introduction to Hand Movements
Basics of using inks
Essential method for playful Calligraphy strokes
Letter formation (any script)
About Instructor:
Hiral Bhagat
Gujarati Calligrapher
Hiral Bhagat has done five years diploma in Applied Art from C.N. College of fine arts. After finishing her diploma she worked for several graphic design firms in Ahmedabad and
Mumbai. She has inclination towards calligraphy from her college days and later she got an opportunity to learn calligraphy in Mumbai. During her training period she had participated in various workshops, demonstrations and calligraphy group exhibitions at Mumbai. Her keen interest is to look at calligraphy as art form rather than just writing form. Her work has selected at various national and international exhibitions and events.
