Title: 'Bitmap Fonts'
Abstract: Â Participants create bitmap fonts in their mother tongue using graph paper and black pen or digital software learning about pixel management for letterform design at low resolutions. This exercise gives an introduction to Indic type design, form and counter form and letter spacing.

Hashim Padiyath graduated in Engineering before doing his Masters in Visual Communication from Industrial Design Centre, IIT Bombay in 1993. Working at C-DAC, Pune he created a few of the first digital typefaces in Malayalam which have become popular in the language. A three year stint at Malayala Manorama saw him create eight typefaces which have defined their typography ever since. In 1997 he started his own design consultancy firm based in Kochi, designing typefaces, publications and identities, packaging, signage, websites and more. His 30 typefaces are being used by leading publications like Mathrubhumi, Deepika, Mangalam, Thejas, D C Books and more. Since 2017, he has been into teaching design, starting with MIT Institute of Design, Pune and now at Anant National University, Ahmedabad. Currently he is also pursuing a PhD in Design at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad on Letterform studies in Malayalam.
