Professor Mahendra Patel, one of the finest teachers of Design, taught students at the National Institute of Design for 39 years. His areas of expertise include Typography, Typeface design, Signage Systems and Information Maps and Charts. He pioneered developments in these fields. Since 2004, he has retired from being a full time faculty at NID. He now spends his time on projects and conducts workshops at different design institutes. Prof. Patel will be speaking on “Type Design Exploration for Indian Scripts”.
Prof. Vikas Satwalekarwas an erstwhile faculty at NID, Ahmedabad. Specialised in Graphic Design, Publication Design, Exhibition Design, Identity Systems, etc.
Achyut Palav is a renowned calligrapher and of modern calligraphy. This specialises in calligraphic paintings, calligraphic art murals, wallpapers and books.
Prof. Sreekumar is an Associate Professor at the Industrial Design Centre IIT Bombay. He joined IDC IIT Bombay, after working for eight years in the publication Industry.
Anand James Dev is the Director of 3 petals multimedia in Kochi, founded in 2001 as a media consultancy. He is a Full time / part time Academician for more than seven years where hes handled subjects such as Visual Communication Theory, Basic Design, Sound design, Illustration, Video, 2D and 3DAnimation. His current areas of research are Indian formal and color symbolism.
S.K. Mohanty will be sharing his experiences in Indian language font design (in various languages)
Manoj Gopinath is currently working in CDAC Pune, and will be speaking on Malayalam Typefaces.
Sridhar Murthy is Typographer — Graphic Designer, Practicing typography for the past 25 years particularly in Newspaper Industry in Andhra Pradesh (Telugu), Now also working for Oriya Magazine to develop fonts. He will speak on the fonts to be developed specially for children
in Indian languages, concepts which Indian language Newspapers have to
implement to enhance the readability and space management through
typography.
Girish Dalvi is a research scholar at IDC IIT Bombay, he completed his graduation in computer engineering, and his masters in new media design from NID. He is working on the structural aspects of Devanagari typography.
Uday Kumar is a research scholar at IDC IIT Bombay, he finished his graduation in architecture, and his masters in visual communication from IDC. He is working on the historical development of letterforms in Tamil typography.
Nirmal will be speaking on his final project in IDC — the design of an onscreen font in Oriya.
